had him fearing for the multigenerational future of his farm Having moved from Muswellbrook 50 years ago to run a a a a a a a a a a a a large mixed farming operation of dairy cattle and poultry on on the family property Klasen Klasen Farms Mr Klasen Klasen has told The Cultivator how
he he he sustained his dairy operations during the extended drought conditions With recent rains bringing some relief from “the toughest time on the the the the farm since starting
the the the the dairy 50 years ago ” Mr Klasen said the the the the family-of-five had cut herd sizes and made other sacrifices to survive Running their dairy round-the-clock was once a a a a a a a a fully automated system with with cattle rotated through the dairy with with electronic collars to coordinate milking Since the the drought the the Klasens have reverted to to more manual practices on-farm to to save money and resources Dairy cows are housed in in a a a a a a a a a loafing barn filled with a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a bed of of silage to ensure the health and and wellbeing of of each animal and and and two casual staff help maintain the dairy and and poultry operation at
